Power Tiller Association of India was established in 2008 as an association of all the major power tiller manufacturers and marketers in India. Initially starting off with 6 associate members, today PTAI has 8 members. PTAI works together with the intention of promoting, educating and building awareness about power tillers which are best suitable for millions of small and medium farmers with limited landholdings, thus playing a very important role in extending the government objective of achieving farm mechanisation.

India is an agrarian society where nearly 70 % people depend on agriculture for livelihood. Around 46% farmers are small or marginal farmer having land holding of less than 2 hectors. They must make their living out of this land. To have a sustainable livelihood they need to have multiple crops and the abilityto till and process the land as quickly as possible. Also, there are land which are not close to motorable road or it is difficult for a tractor to reach the land. There are lands where multiple crop is also done but due to the standing crop, tractor cannot reach there.

For all the above cases Power Tiller provides an excellent solution. It is a very important machine as it can be owned at a very small cost and it can reach to any kind of land due to its small size. It is also very effective for small landowners as it is available at the doorstep of the farmer and is used as per his convenience.

So,Power Tiller (PT) is a very critical part of farm mechanization ecosystem. There are many farmers who do not have the ability to buy large equipment like tractors but nevertheless are in dire need.
